Q: Tell us a little about yourself — who are you, where are you from, what are your hobbies?
A: My name is Norma from El Paso, Texas. I am a mom of four, and a grandma of two little ones. Most of my free time goes with them, but I also love to cook and read. I prefer leadership and self-help books. I am a bit of a news junkie and a night owl as well.
Q: How did you first hear about the Guild Facebook groups?
A: I was enrolled in the Guild high school program back in 2018, and I believe my coach sent me the link to join.
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your role as a Facebook group ambassador?
A: My role is to support and encourage my fellow students in any way I can, sharing my experiences both good and not so good with them. Sometimes we need someone looking from the outside in, to help us refocus. It can be very overwhelming, and for me personally, I felt very alone when I did the program. My hope is that everyone feels like part of the family and can see just how amazing they are.
Q: What do you personally get out of being involved with the group?
A: There is no feeling like seeing everyone push past their barriers! I have seen so many students start with fears and insecurities and it’s simply amazing to see them graduate. it never gets old for me; I still tear up when I get those messages or see those completion posts. They all inspire and motivate me to be a better student and an all-around better person.
Q: Who would you encourage to join the Facebook group?
A: Definitely, everyone enrolled in the program, or if they are on the fence about it. The group has grown tremendously and there is always a word of encouragement to be found. Being able to get a glimpse of what it is like can be beneficial.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share?
A: It has been an honor to be part of so many journeys and I am deeply humbled. My life has changed for the better not just because I gained my high school diploma, but because I get to meet so many wonderful people from all walks of life.
